Guest Post: Buckle Up

Hello Thoughts in Tiffany Blue readers! My name is Cristina Nika, a fashion and lifestyle blogger from Sydney and a regular author on High Style Life. I wish to thank Joanne for having me on her wonderful blog! I am constantly in search of good, kind and wonderful people who'd like to share their space with me and so far I 've been a very lucky girl.

Accesorizing is a great thing, and the ladies love the fact they can change their outfits, by simply adding some necklaces, earrings, scarfs and bracelets. But sometimes, it can be a little time consuming to choose the right piece of jewelry and to think of the best way of putting it all together. Luckily, there are clothing pieces that are already perfectly accessorized with big buckles. Maybe the idea sounds strange to you for now, but stick till the end, and you might be surprised.

No need for accessorizing

As mentioned on the beginning, buckles are accessories per se. For instance, when wearing an ordinary dress with no details and a purse with a big striking buckle, any further accessorizing could be like overdoing it. It is the same with the shoes with buckles. They can instantly add edginess to your entire outfit, and no one will be able to look away from them. Consider buckles as a stylish object which can be a focus of your whole clothing combination.

LBD or a little buckled dress
A buckle on the middle of the dress can bring focus to your waist and accentuate your silhouette, or create an illusion of one, if you lack curves. It will give stylishness to every dress, and it’ll especially look stunning on a wrap dress, which is a fashion must have for every woman who desires to look at her best.

For a more daring look, the perfect choice would be a floral, above the knee dress, with a big-buckled leather belt. If you’re in a constant quest for knock-out clubbing dresses, direct your quest for a figure-shaping dress with metal buckles on the side. It’s so fashionable nowadays, it wouldn’t be hard to find.

Boho trend is in the NOW
First buckles were put on shoes in the mid-17th century, and ever since they’re making pairs and pairs of shoes more striking. Regardless of whether it comes to sandals, heels, flats, wedges, boots or ankle boots, a buckle or two, or three, will elevate the pair. Make your choices right considering the boho style you’re striving for.

For example, brown leather ankle boots with a couple of buckles will give you the spunky, rock star look. On the other hand, pumps with belts and buckles around your ankles will make you ready for a girls’ night out, whenever you feel like it.

It’s a classic
An evergreen in a world of fashion, a coat with buckles was popular ever since the Victorian era, and since then, it hasn’t lost much of its popularity. Similar to coats, buckled bags seem to be here since forever. And both of these pieces are here to stay. All you need to do is to adjust them to your own personal style.

Go gothic with aristocrat tail coat with striking buckles. Look business ready with a square shaped buckle purse, for a more fun look, add a pop of bright color. There is no limit to adapting this classic to modern age.

So, are you ready to buckle up? From here it will be a wild ride. Now is the time to go buckle questing and exploring the ever crowded malls, or if you opt for an easier way, online stores. Perhaps you don’t have to go further from your closet, where you can maybe find some retro buckled pieces you’ve completely forgotten about.

March Favorites

Hi, everyone!

I'm very excited to finally start the new month of April, and now I'm also finally able to share my March favourites for you. This is pretty new for me because as you may have noticed, I've never really posted any type of monthly favourites post, so as a newbie blogger, this is definitely a first for me. Here are my favourites from the month of March:

Music
  • Four Five Seconds by Rihanna, Paul McCartney, and Kanye West - To be honest, I adore this song but I actually prefer listening to Sam Tsui's cover. But if you haven't listened to it, you should. It has such a nice rhythm, and I was so thrilled that these musical legendaries came together to produce this.
  • Falling by HAIM - Okay, so as an ultimate fangirl for Taylor Swift, I noticed she's been hanging out with the girls from HAIM recently, so I decided to try downloading their songs. This one has got to be my absolute favourite. Such a pretty song.
  • I Want You to Know by Zedd ft. Selena Gomez - Totally their choice, but I will forever ship Selena and Zedd. I know they're already together but I really think they should last forever. Oh wait, yeah, the song. Yeah it's a really cool tune, you've probably heard it at... any mall ever.
  • Meghan Trainor's album, "Title" - I can't even describe how much I am obsessed with Meghan's songs right now. I knew I liked All About That Bass and Lips Are Movin', but after deciding to download her album, it's just amazing. So so so addicted, it's just the type of music I love to hear!
  • Forever by Kari Jobe - Next on the list is this gospel song by Kari Jobe. Her voice leaves me in awe, honestly. She's quite amazing, and this song has been replaying itself in my mind for days now. I am really overwhelmed by how this perfectly defines the greatness of the resurrection of Christ.
  • Sugar by Maroon 5 - This song is so catchy and fun and amazing that I can't even deal. Okay the song didn't come out in March, but lately I've been so head over heels about it. This is so much better than their latest which was Animals, which I didn't like at all. But Sugar? Obsessed. Nothing further.
  • Pentatonix - If you haven't heard of Pentatonix, they're this amazing acapella group consisting of five extraordinarily talented people, each with a different kind of voice. Their best covers, in my opinion now, are probably La La Latch, Can't Hold Us, and Daft Punk. I've been listening to these guys' covers day and night because their vocals are just so on point, so I think you guys should check them out.

Beauty/Skincare
  • The Body Shop's Shea Body Scrub - My mom bought this scrub a long time ago, so you might notice the slightly different picture on the lid apart from the ones they sell now, but she passed it on to me because she noticed how dry my skin was getting. It's been immensely useful, I love applying it because it exfoliates the skin wonderfully and smells SO GOOD. I don't use it too frequently to avoid skin abrasions, though!
  • Bath & Body Works's Velvet Sugar Body Lotion - I got this online around the end of last year, and lately I've been using it more and more. I kind of feel that every Bath & Body Works product kind of smells the same (honestly), but I happen to adore the smell of this lotion. It smells sweet and leaves my skin moist.
  • Maybelline's Clear & Smooth BB Stick - This might be a bit uncommon but I purchased this BB stick at a local department store. Ever since then, I have been so in love with this product. First, the application was pretty tricky for me, but I've gotten used to it now and it's a total lifesaver. It's subtle, natural, and quick, so it totally helps when you're in a rush. No more fuss with BB cream!
  • The Face Shop's Nail Polish in PP403 - The Face Shop is a South Korean brand specialising in cosmetics, skincare, and similar products. This is also an item I did not purchase by my own. My sister has kept it for a longest time and about last December, she gave it to me instead. I've never really thought about it until recently, I tried it on on my little finger and bam, love.

Quotes
  • "I'm not aspiring to be someone else. If I'm me for the rest of my life then so be it." -Terry Lander
  • "Stop waiting for Friday, for summer, for a boy to fall in love with you. Happiness is achieved when you stop waiting for it and make something of the moment you're in right now."
  • "I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. If you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it full speed. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it, and above all, become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good." -Roald Dahl
  • "May the stars carry your sadness away. May the flowers fill your heart with beauty. May hope forever wipe your tears, and above all, may silence make you strong." -Chief Dan George

Others
  • The Cinderella movie! - Despite the obvious downgrading of the Fairy Godmother's character, I was absolutely wonderstruck by this movie. Lily James and Hayley Atwell were gorgeous, Cate Blanchett was slaying, and I am so in love by how magical this film turned out to be. (If you follow me on Instagram, you can see my recent portrait drawing of Cinderella. That's how much I loved it.)
  • These new clothes - My mom just came home from her trip out of town, and came home bringing me 2 brand new sets of PJs, a pair of sweatpants, and the cutest sweater ever (one that says "Charmé"). The pyjamas pictured above are Jaclyn Smith and they are so soft and comfortable I just feel so... loved. The same goes for the sweatpants!
  • Wattpad - Recently, my friends have been introducing me to Wattpad. If you don't know what it is, it's actually a website/app where you can write your own stories and read other peoples' stories in forms of online chapters and books. You can read my ongoing story (still yet to finish) called "Voyance" here! I also really adored this one story called "Twelve Ways to Spend One's Christmas", so that made me a lot more fascinated about Wattpad as well.
  • Taking walks - So lately, I've been taking plenty of walks, a lot more than I used to, and I gotta say I really enjoy it! It's a healthy alternative for when I'm not feeling well enough to go for a run, and I find it really soothing to just walk alone around the neighbourhood or maybe in another neighbourhood. I've been doing it a lot lately and plan on turning it into a real lifestyle change.

That is it for this post! I realize now that I've made it really long but oh well, I hope you enjoyed it! By the way, did you notice this new faded effect I'm going for with my pictures? I just found out how to do that on Photoshop so I'm loving it and am planning to stick to it from now on!

What's on your March Favorites list? Do leave a comment below! Tell me what you think of the things listed above as well. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Reasons I Wouldn't Follow a Fashion Blogger

I realised some time ago that there is a difference between running a fashion blog and actually becoming a fashion blogger. As I run a fashion and lifestyle blog (where I do talk about fashion and post about fashion), I probably couldn't be considered as a "fashion blogger" yet.

But basically, I follow a very unhealthy number of fashion bloggers through my social media accounts. I literally follow so many of them, but I have come across some bloggers I just didn't choose to follow. Listed below are reasons why I would not follow a fashion blogger that I find.
  1. They don't use good quality pictures. - I'm not saying every fashion blogger should own or use a DSLR camera, but I am saying that good quality pictures are very important when you're trying to highlight a certain look. You can use any pocket camera (even your phone sometimes), as long as you have good lighting and the photos are well-edited. Also the size of course!
  2. They never say anything in their posts! - Okay, I get if you're not a person who likes to write. But it is so important for your followers to know what you've been up to, or the story behind your outfit, or how your day is going. Only a few sentences would do! I've followed a few fashion bloggers who only post pictures on their posts, and nothing else. Frankly, I felt like I didn't know them at all! All I'm saying is if I only wanted pictures, I could just follow your Instagram.
  3. They don't actually "style", they just wear. - The reason you are called a fashion blogger is because you are to express yourself through the fashion you wear and the styling decisions you choose. So honestly, if it's just to promote that $200 dress with no accessory whatsoever, I tend to have my doubts. You have to style as much as you can.
  4. They post every 145273 years or something. - Maybe it's just my impatience, but I do not want to end up following that one blogger who only posts once every 3 months or something. You don't have to post everyday, true. But I think fashion bloggers should post three or four times a week, or maybe just once a week, once in two weeks at least! Posting too rarely kind of implies that you're expecting your followers to just stick around to wait for your next post. No, we're just gonna leave.
  5. They tell us to shop at brands that cost at least $100 per item. - I never have any problem with the endorsements or advertising that bloggers do, but please don't expect me to buy those $500 shoes from Jeremy Scott. I do follow plenty of famous and successful bloggers who wear very high-end clothing, but I really like the ones who wear everyday, affordable clothes. Makes me think you don't have to be rich to blog.
  6. Their actual blog doesn't look like a blog. - A blog definitely needs a good navigation system, like putting tabs, and adding a good template, and whatnot. But the thing is, I like seeing blogs that look like blogs. As pretty as they can be, I like blogs that make me believe it's just a fashion blog with posts from a real fashion blogger person. This kind of doesn't happen whenever I enter a blog and then there's this really complicated layout that I have to kind of adapt to. It's like visiting Style.com and not a fashion blog. I do have to give them some credit because that must've taken a lot of HTML work, but I really just prefer normal-but-pretty looking blogs.
  7. Their taste in fashion collides with my own personal style. - Lastly, this one's kind of a no-brainer, but I obviously will not follow you if we have very different taste in fashion. I adore following fashion blogs because they provide me with a daily dose of fashion inspiration. Obviously, there's never much to say if the person I'm following wears nothing that I would wear personally. So figuring out how a blogger chooses their style is a big deal for me. If you have a very Japanese-neon-kawaii vibe, for example, to your OOTDs, then I probably won't follow you. Although it isn't a personal thing, it's still something that keeps me from following a fashion blogger.
So that's all for today's post! I can't wait to share with you my next post because it's gonna be really great and different. I hope you stay tuned!

Are you a fashion blogger? If yes, did you find this useful? Do you follow a lot of fashion bloggers? What makes you not follow one? Leave a comment below, I'd love to know what you think!

Have an awesome day!

*The fashion blogger I put in the picture above is Chiara Ferragni from the Blonde Salad. I know this post is talking about reasons I wouldn't follow a fashion blogger but I have nothing against Chiara, I'm just using her photo because she's very well-known, and have a good number of photos in high quality. I hope this didn't offend anyone.
